Hi, I’m Joy.

I’m an illustrator who finds inspiration in the natural world — flowers, gardens, animals, and the small details that often go unnoticed.

I didn’t always make art. In fact, I stopped drawing and creating when I was young. But one morning at breakfast, my dad taught me how to draw an elephant — and something reawakened in me. From then on, I drew and painted off and on for years.

In high school, I learned to sew. Later, after I had my daughters, I started sewing again — and added gardening, baking, and trying new recipes to the mix. I wanted to learn everything I could about creating. I read books and magazines, watched shows, and explored any creative path that called to me.

Then I went to college and discovered something else I loved: writing. I studied hard and made some fun and surprising discoveries along the way. But it took me a few more years to realize what I really wanted: to draw and paint again.

As an adult, I felt something was missing — so I set out to reclaim my creativity.

I’m a self-taught artist who discovered digital art on the iPad and fell in love. I dove into floral illustration, lettering, and character design. But along the way, I also realized something important:

I don’t just learn differently — I teach differently too.

I’ve always loved teaching. It comes naturally to me. But I don’t teach the way most people do. While many tutorials jump straight into technique, I always want to understand the why before the how — the story before the steps. I need context, frameworks, and structure before I can truly feel free to explore creatively.

And I’ve found that so many of us learn this way too.

Whether I’m drawing, painting, or teaching, I’m here to help creative souls (like you!) rediscover their artistic confidence — and to celebrate the beauty of exploring many creative paths.
